Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on some good books. I play about 85% online and 99% of the time I play Texas Hold em. Mostly single table tourneys but sometimes a cheap ring game.

I'd say I play about 1-2 hours a day on the average.

Looking for a book that helps with strategy and tells (for online and live poker). I hope the more I learn on how other people can play, the better decisions I can make.

Went to Barnes & Nobles and I saw a lot of books that looked old, outdated, and not focused on Hold em. Purchased the first Phil Helmult (sp?) book a few months ago but found the material more or less too elementary (too much on rules of game, betting format, etc.). I'm not a great player, but I understand the basics.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Just about anything from Twoplustwo Publishing is worth the money. Look for the following authors: Sklansky, Malmuth, Zee, Miller, Harrington. You'll find good stuff there no matter what you play.

Don't buy anything authored by Ken Warren. He's the worst; his advice will lose you money.

Those are the two best pieces of advice I can give you. Good luck on your search.

I agree with Quicklearner, anything from twoplustwo is excellent. Since you said you play a lot of single table tournaments I would also suggest you get the 2004 poker players conference DVD. It's about $40 and you can get it from conjelco or from Gamblers Bookstore. Lee Jones gives an excellent presentation on how to beat the sit n go's. Lots of other good info too. Well worth the money.

thanks for the info guys...i will check out the books next time i hit a bookstore. Do the twoplustwo books focus more on internet poker? I briefly glanced and noticed that they have all kinds of books and there were ones focused on hold em...not sure if there some specifically for online poker.

Good luck at the tables!

The concepts in the twoplustwo books pertain to poker no matter where you play. Hold'em Poker would be a very good starting point then go to Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players. If you study those you will be able to beat most of the smaller and middle limit games. The Theory of Poker is also an excellent book you might want to read. I am currently reading Small Stakes Hold'em and so far so good.

For tells you might want to get Mike Caro's book, but it deals with live tells. There's not much in the way of online tells, mainly because there aren't many. And do yourself a favor and burn Hellmuth's book, at least the limit Hold'em section. It's utter trash.

First book to read: "winning low limit hold em" - Lee Jones
- great place to start

Also look at "Internet Texas Hold Em" - Matthew Chilger
- very good book designed for the internet player.

I just read Harrington's new book. It is simply awesome. One of the best around and designed to help your tournament game. Hold em poker for advanced players is a must read once you get a good grasp of the game.
